ORSI mission statement is to provide clinical, and educational infrastructural support to areas in need, particularly in the field of orthopaedic surgery.
ORSI is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization whose goal is to provide orthopaedic clinical, educational, and infrastructural support to areas in great need. Our initial project focuses on rebuilding the orthopaedic surgical capabilities of the largest and only university hospital in Haiti, Hopital de l’Universite d’Etat d’Haiti (HUEH). Orthopaedic surgical services were challenged before the earthquake of January 2010. They were decimated afterward.
The model will include initial site assessments which identify clinical and educational deficits. During this phase of project development, trust and collaborative partners are cultivated. We, therefore, will bring infrastructural support to remedy deficits noted in our assessment and create a clinical environment of functionality. Surgical teams providing clinical and educational support then follow. Ultimately, exit strategies with long-term empowerment strategies and sustainability models will be implemented. This basic approach will be applied to all ORSI projects going forward.
